Participants in Saturday's classes will have two 30 minute practice periods in which to hone their newly acquired skills.
The first practica takes place after lunch.
The second practica takes place just before dinner.
Dancers are encouraged to take advantage of this time to work on skills they may have struggled with during class, ask questions, transition their bodies from inactivity to activity and vice versa, or just as a bonus open dance opportunities.
Open Etiquette Discussion
8:00 - 9:00 pm
Everyone at Windy City Fusion comes from differing dance backgrounds, with differing cultural norms and variations on basic moves/positions/connections (ex: close embrace in blues is very different from close embrace in ballroom styles). How can we navigate these differences to create positive experiences for those we dance with? How can we communicate with our partners verbally in ways that allow one partner to express themselves without giving unintended offense? How can we learn from our partners to create better dance experiences moving forward?
This is an open discussion with a moderator that is open to everyone attending the Saturday night open dance. We will be utilizing Windy City Fusion's Community Expectations as well as ideas surrounding consent culture.
3:30 - 4:00 pm
4:00 - 6:30 pm
The first half hour of Sunday's open practica time is reserved for those who participated in the Sunday class. Dancers are encouraged to take advantage of this time to work on skills they may have struggled with during class and ask questions.
The final two and a half hours are open to everyone who participated in the weekend. This period may be utilized as open dance, but dancers are encouraged to use it to explore ideas and skills they would like to work on in ways that are not always possible during an open dance.
